Met Gala 2016: Best & Worst Dressed

Monday, May 09, 2016

So the most anticipated fashion event of the year went down last Monday, and well... some outfits had us in awe whilst others had us feeling like we wanted to pass out (no joke). This years theme was Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology - so of course we were expecting to see a lot of tech inspired looks. As per usual, some adhered to the theme whilst others just wore what the hell they liked. Anyway, we thought we'd write a post on the best and worst dressed. Who slayed and who didn't?

Rita Ora in Vera Wang
Rita Ora looked absolutely gorgeous in this dress by Vera Wang. The sleek hair and the silver feathers fitted the theme well, whilst the sheer parts of this beautiful gown added ultimate sex appeal. Yay to Rita!

Madonna in Givenchy
Madonna, why do you do this? This outfit was atrocious. According to Elle.com, the singer claimed her outfit was a "political statement", fighting ageism and that women can still be sexy at any age. Kudos to her for this, but exposing everything for the world to see is not necessarily 'sexy'. This outfit was more than disappointing to say the least.

La La Anthony in Nicolas Jebran
The world literally sleeps on La La Anthony which is a shame, so we needed to show her some appreciation in this post cos this beauty absolutely SLAYED in this dress. The rich red looked vibrant, which contrasted the silver that most people went for. The sharp shoulders and the deep plunge neckline felt very futuristic. La La won with this Nicolas Jebran choice.

Solange in David Laport
Looks like Solange has been sipping too much Lemonade, or listening to too much of her sisters 'Lemonade'. This outfit... OMG. Let's just take a breather before we start. There's just way too much going on. We love how Solange tests the waters with her style - but this wasn't a great choice. This was a real statement piece, but not in a good way.

Ciara in H&M
This gown was just perfect. We loved the Swarovski crystal crosses, the collar, the silver hair. Ciara looked really elegant, and definitely aced the Manus x Machina theme. Work it gurrllll!

Selena Gomez in Louis Vuitton
Selena... Why? We've been digging your style just lately, but this wasn't good at all. It just didn't feel wow enough for such a huge prestigious event like the Met Gala. We know its Louis Vuitton, but this really looks like something you'd wear for a quick store run on a very average Saturday afternoon. Please Selena, come harder next year... we know you've got that sass in you.

Zendaya in Michael Kors Collection
Zendaya looked gorgeous. This was such a beautiful and elegant gown. The choice of gold was great which made her stand out more as most wore silver, and the choice of wig was just everything! 10/10 to Zendaya.

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen
Mehhhhh... Meeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... there's really nowhere to begin... *stares at image with complete and utter boredom* . Really wish these two would switch it up and stop wearing curtains for clothes. Who is their stylist?!

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West in Balmain
We really loved how Kimye had fun with the Manus x Machina theme with Kim bleaching her eyebrows and Kanye with his contacts. The couple looked amazing as per usual, but after seeing Balmain's Snapchat story prior to the event with all the 'BalmainArmy' x Met Gala hints - we knew the Kardashian clan would rock up wearing Balmain as per. Kim's dress was stunning, but it didn't get us as excited as her dress last year. Overall though, the couple 100% slayed.

Nicki Minaj
This just wasn't good. The gloves, the buckles... EVERYTHING. This outfit didn't look classy at all Nicki, and looked quite tacky. Less is definitely more, and this dress was just doing way too much.

Kylie Jenner in Baalmain
Kylie looked absolutely stunning. We were going to leave this out, but man oh man... we just had to include this in the end! The glitz of the dress was breathtaking and looked so sophisticated. Kylie revealed on her Snapchat that the dress left her bruised and scratched, but theres no beauty without a little pain ay?

And finally... Claire Danes
This was hands down our favourite dress of the night. She looked stunning and followed the theme the best. Cinderalla dreams? Heck, Claire Danes made this dream a reality. Her dress also friggin glowed in the dark! 10/10 for innovation and 10/10 for style. Claire Danes was the real Manus x Machina of the night.
