When we got invited down to try out the Elemis Superfood facial at the Spa Experience Bethnal Green, we just couldn't say no. As busy working girls, self-care and pamper time is always essential and you should try and treat yourself from time to time. Whether that's a massage, a facial, a pedicure or anything that makes you feel at peace - time for you really is key.

Located on the lower ground level of Bethnal Green's York Hall Leisure Centre, and only a short 3 minute walk away from Bethnal Green Underground station - the tranquil spa really is one of London's hidden gems.

On arrival, I signed in and was offered ice cold water infused with grapefruit - perfect for a hot day in June. I was then asked to fill out a form about my health, along with my current skin care regime. After filling in the short form, I was then handed a tote bag which included a towel, a flannel, a bath robe, a locker and also a pair of flip flops.

After getting changed, I was led to a dim room in which I received a quick skin consultation - I was asked about my skin, what products I use etc. before receiving my treatment, expanding on the notes I filled in on the form. Using the Elemis Superfood range, these products take on a holistic approach to wellness, incorporating the potency of natural ingredients that are lauded for their superfood stature. With ingredients including grains, greens, fruits, seeds and oils such as ginger, kale, broccoli, avocado, matcha and flax seeds, this is a plate of nutrition for your skin.

Giving my skin a nutritional boost, after my treatment, my skin looked more radiant, hydrated and plumper. My therapist really took her time with my skin, and I would definitely recommend this treatment and facility to everyone, especially if you're trying to enjoy luxury for less.

Other treatments here include: a range of Hammam Rituals, La Sultane De Saba Shea Butter Back Massage, Hot Stone Therapy, Wax treatments, Eyelash & Brow Tinting and more.

If you're on a budget, but want to enjoy a luxury experience then the Spa Experience is for you. At the moment, there is a 3 for 2 offer on all facials. A series of two facials must be purchased at the same time to qualify for one free facial. Facials can then be scheduled at a later date, subject to availability and booking, and are valid for 12 months. Most facials start from as little as £30 up to the £70 mark.

Other packages include The Total Spa Experience, which incorporates a full body exfoliation, followed by a warm cocoon envelopment and a soothing face and scalp massage. The treatment then ends with hot stones. This treatment is priced at £48 - £60.

The rest of the spa boasts a range of different facilities, including a quiet relaxation area, a sauna, a plunge pool, Monsoon showers (several jets which release scented water), an ice fountain, hot rooms (Turkish Baths) and a relaxing heated seating area.

Along with the rise of current skincare trends, pollution is another buzzword that keeps cropping up in the world of beauty. Not one to stand out unlike other skincare traits, pollution can in fact have a silent impact on the skin which can often go unnoticed, becoming a more concerning issue in the long run and causing wrinkles quicker than you can say premature ageing, if you live or work in a city.

For my fellow Oxford Street lovers, I hate to break it to you, but Oxford Street has been classed as one of the world’s worst streets for pollution, raising increased sebum production in the skin, dehydration levels, dull skin, premature ageing and a weakened defensive barrier, and that’s before we’ve even crossed the road to get our claws into Topshop.

Whilst there isn’t much that can be done to reduce the current air quality levels during the current climate, there are ways you can work towards protecting your skin against the damaging effects of pollution. Here are 5 skincare steps I couldn’t be without.

Vichy Purete Thermale Fresh Cleansing Gel - £12.00

With the levels of pollution now at an all time high, I can’t preach enough how important it is to double cleanse as soon as you get home to ensure your skin is clarifyingly clean. Try using an oil based cleanser or micellar water first to remove a few layers of the days dirt, followed by Vichy’s Purete Thermale Fresh Cleansing Gel to remove pollution particles, dust and excess sebum. Enriched with extracts of Glycerin and Moringa combined with Amilite Technology, this refreshing cleanser helps to super boost skin and provide it with the right defense mechanism to face another day.

Just like the highlighter to our cheeks or the primer to our foundation, the role of a moisturiser plays a key part in our routine. Whilst oily, sensitive and combination skin types tend to know what works best for them when it comes to choosing a face cream, if there’s one thing we need to pay more attention to it’s finding the right SPF in time for the summer season.

As a rule, SPF is recognised to be something that should be applied to the face everyday throughout the year, yes that’s right everyday (even when the British weather has hit an all time low). Yet for many of us, the importance of SPF is still deemed to be an unnecessary factor. Everyone benefits from the radiant results of sun and anti ageing protection, even darker complexions who naturally have more melanin in their skin, which scientifically adds an extra layer of protection against the sun's UV rays. However be warned that this is only a small percentage of protection and an SPF is still required to maintain healthy skin.

No matter your skin tone, here are 5 of my trustworthy SPF favourites which can be used with your regular moisturiser or as a replacement. FYI, these won’t leave your skin feeling chalky, sticky or reaching for your nearest face exfoliator.

On the 20th April, we were invited down to Brown Beauty Talk's first Skincare Masterclass. As advocates of beauty and wellness inside and out, we just had to get down there to see what the experts had to say on how we can level up our skincare game.

Speaking on the panel at the event were a range of different skin care specialists such as Alice Hart-Davies from Good Things, Nneka Fleming from Novel Skincare, Ozohu Adoh from EPARA, and lastly Antonia Burrell one of UK's best loved skincare experts, who is also an Associate Lecturer in the Chemistry of Aromatherapy at the London College of Fashion.

Amongst the advice that was given, this one key thing about good skincare stood out to us the most. Antonia Burrell stated "products work best when you double cleanse, or even cleanse three times". According to her, cleaning your face twice, and sometimes even three times is the best way to ensure that the products you're using actually get to the base of your skin, instead of layering product on top of grime and pollutants that build up on your skin throughout the day.

L'Occitane Shea Cleansing Oil

Double cleansing tackles two different types of impurities: oily dirt (makeup and sebum), and watery dirt (sweat and environmental muck). The first product you use should be something that pulls the oil off of your skin, such as an oil cleanser like L'Occitane Shea Cleansing Oil which is a fave. According to cosmetic dermatologic surgeon Dr. Ariel Ostad he states "Cleansing oil uses the 'good oils' in your skin to remove the 'bad oils'... When you rinse the product off, the 'good oil' takes those 'bad oils' and dirt along with it"

Dermalogica Ultracalming Cleanser

The second product should be something that is either a gel, milk, blemish fighting, clay-based or exfoliating formula depending on your skin's personal needs. Products such as Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser or even Dermalogica Ultracalming Cleanser, which specifically states it protects and soothes skin sensitised by pollution, temperature extremes, harsh detergents, and chemical exposure are good choices.

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser

Although its advisable for tip top skin, if you find you don't have time or the funds to spend on double cleansing everyday... investing in something like Glossier's Milky Jelly Cleanser would be your best bet. The jelly can be used on dry skin to dissolve away oil based makeup and grime, but can also double up and be used on wet skin too. PIXI Double Cleanse is also a good alternative which houses both a solid cleansing oil and a luxe cleansing cream in one jar.
