Style Spy: AW17 Hair Inspiration

Sunday, November 12, 2017

Every collection we see on the catwalk is a result of a designer feeling inspired to a tell a story through their eyes, and of course the sole focus is how the clothes encapsulate this. Aside from the setting, lighting and makeup – hairstyles can add just as much to the aesthetic of the collection. As the AW17 season is here and in full force, we picked out different A/W runway hairstyles that stood out to us and ones we will most certainly be trying out this season:

Chanel

Not only were we blown away by the incredible set of the Chanel runway, but also the 60’s inspired big and bouncy hair by Sam McKnight which contrasted with the futuristic theme. It brought a fresh perspective to the classic ready-to-wear collection, with the voluminous but soft style which surprisingly played well with the modern-day lady in tweed look. We love…

Tory Burch

This Katherine Hepburn inspired hairstyle just caught our eye with its simplicity. It’s so easy on the eyes, allowing the outfits to speak for themselves. The middle parted, low ponytail look has been a go-to this year proving that less is more, and achieves the busy high class city girl look effortlessly. It’s wearable anywhere and everywhere - from every day to even date night. Add a black ribbon to evoke a romantic, sophisticated and soft look.

This messy comb-over style helped portray the factory worker aesthetic which was part of the vision for the collection. We agree that fashion shows are all about embracing creativity and uniqueness, but this 'I woke up like this' vibe we were getting from the show isn't one we were too hype about. The wet/greasy textures and intentional 'out-of-place' strands of hair are definitely something we hope we don't get after a long day out this winter.

The collection was inspired by Lady Macbeth scheming, screaming and schlepping her way through the Highlands of Scotland. To encapsulate this, the models rocked a range of different untamed braids including fishtails and regular plaits which contrasted the elegance of the collection. We were particularly impressed with the number of ways braids can be presented, and it's a look we can definitely work with.
